Escape to London and the English Countryside

Whether it is summer or winter there is something for everyone in the world-famous city of London and its picturesque countryside.

Every year people flock to London in the summer. The weather can be beautiful and it’s great to see the flowers in full bloom at Kensington Palace, but there is plenty to see and do outside of the summer months. For people living in eastern North America, London makes for a great weekend getaway. Seriously! People fly to Vegas for a weekend, which is a five-to-six-hour flight, when they can fly an hour, or an hour-and-a-half, longer and be in London. London has all that Vegas has and more and should not be underestimated as a fantastic getaway destination.

Shaftesbury Avenue, London’s West End.

Our London Theatre Escape package is perfect for travellers wanting to see famous shows in one of the world’s best theatrical districts: London’s West End. At night, the area comes alive. It’s a perfect place to wander the streets, admire the architecture of the buildings, and pop into the great pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal before catching a play.

During the daytime, pop in and out of shops on Bond Street or Oxford Street. Regardless of the weather, it’s also essential to visit Harrods. The elaborate window displays, especially at Christmastime, help make the outside of this department store as much of a must-see destination as the inside. Once you do get inside, wrap yourself in luxury or pick up a trinket to take back home. There is plenty to see and do here; the food hall is a destination in itself.

As for museums, London is loaded with them, many of which are free. A few of the most famous London museums are the Tate Modern, the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, and the British Library. Depending on what your interest is, there is something for everyone. Also, when the weather is rainy (which can happen any time of year in London), museums are a great place to escape the rain and take in some culture.

The Roman Baths in Bath

Outside of London, travellers can see perhaps the most famous prehistoric monument in the world, the acclaimed World Heritage Site of Stonehenge. Visiting the southwest of England is also enchanting as travellers can discover Roman baths, remote beaches, and rugged moors in Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset. They can also head north towards the birthplace of Shakespeare and discover quintessential England in Warwickshire, which includes Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, and the Cotswolds. Travellers will see delightful villages, Tudor thatched cottages, rolling hills, medieval markets, and castles. Goway’s England Explorer tour combines London with iconic English countryside areas for an ideal European vacation.

There is so much to see in England. It has something for every budget and style of travel. It should be on every globetrotter’s list for must-do trips for 2020.
