Help Save An Elephant (From Anonymity!)
Goway has an elephant to name, and we need your help!
With poaching numbers at a record low, the future is looking bright for Africa’s elephants, the eco-systems in which they play a vital role, and those who go on safari to see them. But like all conservation work, momentum and consistency are key.
With poaching numbers reduced from nearly 400 in 2012 to just 11 in 2020, Kenya is a conservation success story that hosts an estimated ten percent of the world’s African elephants. Perhaps the best-known place to see them is Amboseli National Park, where the snowy peak of Kilimanjaro dominates the skyline, and the marshes created by its snowmelt provide the perfect habitat for some 2000 elephants. When you explore Amboseli, you get to see the community and emotional intelligence of these giants firsthand, whether it’s in a large herd moving across the near-treeless plain, or in a small family walking together in the shadow of the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
Protecting Kenya’s elephants, however, also means protecting the fragile habitats they call home—including from the elephants themselves! Putting an end to ivory poaching is part of this never-ending task, but so is minimizing human-elephant conflict and slowing the effects of climate change. That’s why Kenya takes a multi-pronged approach to conservation, in which education, community outreach, and tourism all play key parts.
As it halted tourism around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic cut off critical income on which Kenya’s conservation efforts depend. Now, more than ever, it’s critical for tourism companies like Goway to take tangible action to help conserve these majestic creatures. In 2022, Goway will sponsor a young elephant in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service. But there’s one little detail outstanding, and we need your help!
We’re inviting our valued agent partners to name our new elephant, and enter for the chance to win a free FAM trip to Kenya in November 2022. While one lucky agent will win the big prize, including the chance to meet the elephant they named, every entrant will get the chance to join the FAM trip at a very reasonable cost. The itinerary includes Amboseli National Park, Tsavo West National Park, home to Kenya’s giant red elephants, always exciting Nairobi, and the country’s most famous wilderness, the Masai Mara.
To enter, simply book and deposit any Goway Africa trip between July 18 and August 31, 2022. You’ll receive an email inviting you to suggest a name for Goway’s elephant. The contest is open to agents in both the United States and Canada.
