What’s in bloom for Europe this spring?

Introducing Europe’s Top 3 destinations for Spring travel and gardens!

By: Reesa Avelino

Spring is the time for new life and growth. For North Americans in colder climates, it’s a long-awaited reprieve from the brutal cold of winter! Travelling to Europe in the spring can be an exceptional experience which carried added bonuses for garden lovers. Add in smaller crowds and pleasant weather, and this is an ideal time to go globetrotting across the Atlantic.

Starting in the UK, Kew Gardens is a botanical garden located in southwest London. It features one of the largest and most diverse collections anywhere in the world with more than 30,000 different varieties of plant. It’s a must-see for garden lovers, but Goway also offers a variety of day tours like the guided excursion, ‘Secret Gardens of London’ which includes entrances to Temple Gardens, London Garden Museum, Chelsea Physic Garden, and Kensington Palace gardens, all with transport by traditional London Black Cab. Then, there’s the world-renowned and quintessentially British flower show, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. In 2019, the show takes place between May 21-25. Goway offers this small group tour highlighting this spectacular show.

In France, don’t miss the famous Gardens of Versailles and its opulent palace. Its gardens embody French formal garden-style with immaculate lawns, flowerbeds, statues, and even a Grand Canal. Starting in April, every Saturday you can also see the spectacular Night Fountain Shows at the Neptune fountain, with 22 jets and almost 100 special effects. For those that want a mix of art and gardens, there’s no better place than the gardens at Giverny. Discover the beautiful water garden created by impressionist artist Claude Monet. The gardens’ first flowers bloom in March. Check out Goway’s Highlights of Paris program which includes visits to both of these spectacular gardens.

In 2019, the gardens officially open from March 21 to May 19. The theme for 2019 is Flower Power. Goway recommends adding an excursion to Keukenhof to its regular Amsterdam Getaway program.
